Gearing Up for 2012 ElectionsThere are 4 levels of political meetings that happen in every election
cycle. It all starts at the basic units, the precinct caucuses. Although
there was a straw poll for the GOP presidential candidates, the really
important business was to elect the delegates for the next level upward...
the Mower County Convention. That convention in March conducted
various business items, but the important selection of delegates to the two
higher levels was the most essential job. There was a lot of interest
in these delegate and alternate positions, and close balloting resulted in a
lengthy counting process, and there was one runoff. But now the
delegates for the Congressional District and State conventions have been
set. The opposition party always pretends they are the poor guys and we are the rich ones. But when the official campaign finance reports come out, their money is equal or greater than ours. And those reports do not reflect much of the non-monetary benefits from unions, an amount that far exceeds any benefits coming from businesses and private individuals. So... despite the exhausting battle for the GOP presidential nomination, the real work for everybody here in the local trenches has barely begin. Anybody who wants to see responsible economics in government along with the provision of all important services as well as constitutional social policies... all of us need to start rollin' up our sleeves. We've got work to do. Mower County Convention March 2012On Saturday morning, March 17th, an enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Senior Center at Austin and worked through a very full agenda into the early afternoon. Fortunately, there was just barely enough time to get all the things done that are necessary to conduct a spirited campaign in 2012 on national, state and local levels. Both of the candidates for MN Congressional District 1 appeared and received a warm welcome. Mike Parry and Alan Quist outlined solid economic plans that the current incumbent won't embrace. And both outlined their agenda on a range of other topics that met with solid support from the delegates elected at the February Mower caucuses. Other representatives of announced candidates also spoke on behalf of their candidates. February 2012 CaucusesDespite news reports that GOP caucuses in MN were down this year, that was certainly not the case in Mower County at this year's February 7th caucus. We had three locations, Austin for the western part of Mower County, LeRoy for the SE portion and Racine in the NE portion. Approximately 300 concerned and activated citizens came out to vote in the straw poll, to discuss the issues and candidates, and to elect delegates and alternates for the county convention Saturday, March 17th at the Austin Senior Center. Facebook & TwitterFacebook and Twitter help all of us keep up with the latest happenings and the people who have something to say. Check out Mower County Republicans and get involved with these links, too. Jennifer Gumbel was one of our earliest proponents of these, but now lots of folks are joining in. How about you? Even if you
don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can still LOOK at the links. You will be able to see what others
are saying. It is easy, just click either one... GOP Fundamentals
